The Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) approach is the most effective treatment available for anxiety disorders. This workshop will go beyond the theoretical background for ERP and will focus on the actual practice. With multiple case examples, role plays, and exercises, participants will get a firsthand experience of what it is like to do ERP with clients. If you attended Dr McGrath’s previous presentations about the best practices for treating anxiety disorders then this presentation will add to it and will delve into the actual disorders and practice in more depth. The program will cover treatment plans, client resistance, family therapy that is necessary when a family member suffers from anxiety, and overcoming your own concerns about using ERP with your clients.

The Challenging behaviours of people with Borderline and Narcissistic Personality Disorders dramatically affect many other people, especially the spouses, parent, neighbourss, children, co-workers or friends. These family members and significant others are more likely to come into therapy than are the persons with Narcissistic or Borderline Personality Disorder. It is essential to be able to effectively help these numerous clients who may be greatly distressed and who present to therapy and services with their lives disrupted by borderline or narcissistic behaviours. Traditional family therapy techniques do not work effectively with these families because of the emphasis on communication, empathy and cooperation, which the person with borderline or narcissist personality disorder is often unable to do or is highly resistant to doing.
